• Headline sponsor of Pride Glasgow for three years
  • Main stage to become The Manchester Airport San Francisco Stage
  • £2,500 competition to San Fran from Manchester to be won
  • UK’s third biggest airport also set to take over the VIP area
  • Spice Girls star Melanie C announced earlier this week as headliner of The Manchester Airport San Francisco Stage

Hot off the heels of announcing its commitment to Pride Edinburgh, Manchester Airport, the UK’s third largest, is set to also become headline sponsor of Pride Glasgow, for the next three years.

As well as being headline sponsor, the Northern hub will also be sponsoring the main stage, which will become known as “The Manchester Airport San Francisco Stage”, which will see many exciting acts perform over the weekend including “Northern Star” singer, headliner Melanie C.

As well as the stage, the UK’s global gateway in the North will also take over the VIP area, which will offer Pride goers the chance to enjoy an exclusive area with its own bar, seating and luxury toilets alongside exclusive entertainment.

Airport staff will be in attendance during the festival to join in the celebrations and shout about its 210 global routes, particularly its popular new direct route to San Francisco.

As part of the sponsorship, Manchester Airport will be offering Pride Glasgow fans the opportunity to win a holiday of a lifetime to San Francisco, which is served by Virgin Atlantic and Thomas Cook Airlines. The competition, worth £2,500 is live now on Pride Glasgow’s website.

On Wednesday of this week, the UK’s global gateway in the North announced a similar sponsorship package with Pride Edinburgh, the first time the airport has sponsored a Pride festival outside of England.

Patrick Alexander, Manchester Airport’s Head of Marketing, said: “We are delighted to be working with Pride Glasgow for the first time to support such a worthwhile event.

“We have sponsored a host of other Prides in England, but thought it was time to come north of the border to support two in Scotland.

“Our involvement in both is a terrific way to thank all of the passengers who choose to fly from Manchester Airport each year.

“We look forward to working closely with the Pride Glasgow team, on what I am sure will be a world class event and wish everyone the best of luck with our San Francisco holiday competition.”

Ross Stevenson, Pride Glasgow’s Festival Director said: “Pride Glasgow 2018 is off to a flying start this year and we are thrilled to be working with Manchester Airport.

“They have supported other Prides across the UK and we are delighted they are working with us up here in Scotland.

“Not only are they our headline sponsors, but they will be giving Pride Glasgow fans the chance to go on a holiday of a lifetime through our competition, which is live now on our website.”

Pride Glasgow is Scotland’s largest LGBTI Pride Festival with over 18,000 people attending the event last year. This year’s event takes place on July 14th and 15th at Kelvingrove Park in the west end of Glasgow.

Manchester Airport, with more than 27.8 million passengers, has over 210 destinations served by more than 70 airlines. With a catchment area spanning as far north as Scotland, south to the West Midlands, west to Wales and east to Yorkshire, it continues to add passengers and international routes. In the last few years alone it has added direct routes to the likes of Seattle, Beijing, Houston, Los Angeles, Boston, Mauritius, Phuket and San Francisco. Manchester is the only UK airport outside of London to offer these routes.

In the last year the airport has also sponsored Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool, Birmingham and Newcastle Prides.
